The couple was living separately since before when their baby was born. When she refused to comply with an Arizona court's order that prevented the financial support she was required to provide to her child, custody issues became even more tense. It was in spite of his salary of $10 million each season. The mother filed for child support and custody rights in California as her husband made the move to Los Angeles Lakers in 2012. However, she strongly countered, insisting that Los Angeles was not the most ideal place for raising children. He also went on to declaring that he's planning on spoiling his children by purchasing all the high-priced things. He refused to pay money to his wife. Instead, he paid her medical expenses and extracurricular costs. But, by the end of 2016, it was found that the couple had just moved to new places and held no grudges against the other.
